Alexandru Hanganu obtained a medical degree (M.D.) and a licensure in Neurology at the “Nicolae Testemitzanu” University in Kishinau, Moldova. After this he performed a PhD study at the same university, in collaboration with Functional Neuroimaging laboratory of the Neurology Clinic, Christian-Albrechts University in Kiel, Germany. His PhD study analyzed the structural and functional brain changes in patients with Parkinson’s disease, patients with Idiopathic Generalized Epilepsy and patients who underwent an ischemic stroke.
In 2012 he pursued his post-doctoral studies at the Centre de Recherche de l’Institut Universitaire de Gériatrie de Montréal, University of Montreal, where he analyzed the structural brain changes in patients with Parkinson’s disease who have mild cognitive impairment, cross-sectionally and over time.
